Peter Staelens is a senior urban mobility expert with over two decades of experience driving sustainable transport solutions across Europe. Currently serving as Head of Mobility at EUROCITIES, he leads a dynamic team delivering on strategic objectives across key areas such as sustainable mobility planning, digital and automated transport, active travel, urban logistics, and clean vehicle technologies.
Peter’s career reflects a steady progression from project officer to senior leadership, marked by a consistent focus on transport innovation, governance, and behavioural change. Between 2008 and 2022, as Senior Project Coordinator at EUROCITIES, he managed complex European mobility projects, developed winning proposals, and led cross-sectoral teams working on Trans-European Transport Networks, safe travel initiatives, and alternative fuels. Prior to this, he championed passenger rights and public transport access at the European Passengers' Federation, where he helped shape policy in the early years of rail market liberalisation.
Combining strategic vision with operational leadership, Peter brings expertise in team coordination, stakeholder engagement, funding acquisition, and high-impact advocacy. He is known for building bridges between cities, institutions, and mobility innovators, and for his ability to translate policy into action.
Peter holds a Master’s in German and English Philology from the University of Ghent and is fluent in Dutch, English, and German. His work is grounded in a deep belief in cities’ power to lead Europe’s green and digital transition through smarter, safer, and more inclusive mobility systems.
