Traffic Regulation Orders hold legal information which govern how drivers should interact with the road. Historically, these are paper-based documents created and managed by local highway authorities. They contain data of speed limits, parking restrictions and other important information for road users. The digitalisation is critical in delivering future services, including connected and automated vehicles and this is now a key area of focus across Europe. This session focuses unlocking digital services securing the provisioning of traffic regulations, including the development of legislation, creation of the legal approach that supports highway authorities and industry. We will also cover the evolution of emerging and deployed services in Norway and the United Kingdom as well as providing insights on international and European standardisation to support digitalised traffic regulation services (METR and DATEX II) developments. Attendees of this session will benefit from learnings on the latest information on the state of some national deployments for digitalised traffic regulation services and learnings and considerations to aid future deployments. These are based on lessons learned so far through user research and engagement with stakeholder communities.
