We are currently seeing National Road Operators (NRAs) undergoing a digital transformation focusing heavily on providing tangible benefits for the road user. One deliverable thereof is to bring data directly from the vehicles’ software systems and from the vehicle drivers’ use of their smartphones into the National Road Operator’s ecosystem. Thankfully, the required middleware for transmission now exists – rolled-out C-ITS, the Data-For-Road-Safety ecosystem of SRTI-data sharing between car manufacturers’ backends, service providers and infrastructure operators, and crowd-sourced data apps such as WAZE. We now need to move forward, fully evaluate the data and identify the benefits to a high level of confidence, in order to shape the business plan for adoption that will see the data plugged into data products/applications and business processes that directly benefit the customers. In this session we will showcase the incoming data in operative National Road Operator environments, a comparison with the NRA’s incident management data, and take a glimpse of what is around the corner.
