Head of the Future Navigation Department in the Directorate of Navigation at the European Space Agency in Noordwijk (The Netherlands). He is responsible for the overall management and implementation of the ESA Navigation Innovation and Support Programme (NAVISP) and Future NAV Programmes, for the navigation contribution to the Moonlight Programme and for the elaboration and preparation of the Future Navigation missions, including R&D, innovation initiatives, pre-developments and cross directorate coordination of all new navigation technologies and advanced studies.
He received his Master’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Pisa, Italy in 1987 and later on earned a Master’s Degree in Space Systems Engineering from the University of Delft, The Netherlands in 1999. He has been awarded in 2018 the Thurlow Award from the American Institute of Navigation and in 2021 the Star of Merit for Labour from the President of Italy.
