Prof. Panos Georgakis completed his undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes at Coventry University in the areas of computer science, software engineering and engineering management. In 2004 he was awarded a PhD for his work on developing an integrated framework for deploying Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). He then held post-doc positions at Strathclyde University and University of Wolverhampton, working on EU-funded projects investigating systems integration and optimisation with applications in maritime and construction industries. He became a senior lecturer in 2009 and has taught modules related to transportation for several years. Since 2021, he has held the Professor in Intelligent Transportation Systems position at the University of Wolverhampton. Over the last decade, he has been involved in the delivery of numerous transportation-related EU-funded research projects such as OPTIMUM, MaaS4EU, HARMONY, FRONTIER, SOTERIA and GREEN-LOG. In some of the projects, he acted as the scientific and technical coordinator, supervising and coordinating the relevant activities. His current research interests involve using machine learning and optimisation techniques in transport-related applications. In this context, he has been working on applications such as traffic forecasting, social media mining for identifying situations of interest on transport networks, multimodal journey planning, integrated traffic management, transport supply and demand optimisation, transport modelling and others.
