Name
SIS 13 Digital twins enabling efficient & cost-effective transport electrification
Date & Time
Monday, May 19, 2025, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Description

The volume of the commercial freight sector is expected to increase towards 2050, especially in the medium and heavy truck modes (N2/N3 type). However, in parallel to that, the recent European climate goals bring challenges for the transport sector and its electrification is a challenge for the whole vehicle industry and mobility services. A paradigm shift in the transportation industry is on-going supported by the ambitious targets and timelines outlined in the 2ZERO partnership, the ERTRAC electrification roadmap and the ALICE roadmap towards zero emission logistics. The evolution of vehicle design and logistics operation technologies with the development of Digital Twins is gaining importance. It will be used at all stage of the industrialisation, exploitation and operation process leading to reduction of costs and contributing to the acceptance of the transport electrification. This topic addresses how Digital Twins can support the electrification of transport, in particular for electric trucks design and manufacture, fleet operation and predictive maintenance, what are the standardisation needs and challenges for Digital Twins to be universally adopted, will they really reduce cost and ease vehicle as well as freight logistics operations? In order to bring light on this topic, beside the European Commission, this session will bring together a panel of experts from different stakeholders (OEMs, suppliers, freight logistics, users) involved in key 2Zero projects where Digital Twins are developed.
