Date & Time

Description

This presentation and panel session will explore innovative public transport solutions such as demand-responsive transport, smart cycling (MegaBITS), and automated transport, designed to meet the unique needs of rural citizens, offering them flexible and sustainable choices that better align with their daily lives. The discussion will introduce ITS-Europe attendees to fresh perspectives on mobility and the expansion of transport options beyond the conventional public transport system. In many rural areas, people increasingly face a choice between earning a livable income and enjoying a good quality of life. Commuting is becoming harder due to a shortage of bus drivers and inflexible transport systems that don’t meet local needs. This lack of effective mobility worsens economic inequality and social isolation.ITS Europe unites Smart Mobility leaders, offering a vital platform to explore how innovative solutions can improve public transport in low-density regions. The session will feature insights from Public Transport Authorities, Municipalities and research institutes will showcase how intelligent mobility, is being developed and implemented in rural settings. Each speaker will highlight contributions from their area of expertise such as local policies that enable new mobility models; researchers will share data-driven strategies; and Public Transport Authorities will demonstrate scalable smart mobility solutions.
