This Session discusses the opportunities and challenges of GNSS -based Positioning Navigation and Timing (PNT) for the mobility sector. From CCAM and advanced lane -keeping assistance to managing micromobility fleets, space -based technologies developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) are able to contribute towards robust and reliable vehicle positioning, ensuring the safety of the users and the resilience of the mobility system as a whole. In addition, Satellite communications (Satcom) can support connected vehicle services and real time navigation offering global coverage as well as real time data exchange for V2I and V2X. But we are not yet able to claim decimetre -level accuracy supported by the GNSS positioning and neither can we claim to have an absolute integrity of the signal (deep urbans or tunnels are still a challenge). The Session will discuss how integrating multiconstellation GNSS with alternative PNT sources, developing sensor fusion techniques (multi-sensor navigation), and addressing cybersecurity in PNT systems are plausible solutions. Speakers will also discuss regulatory hurdles, including creating legal frameworks for autonomous vehicles and establishing international standards, while balancing innovation with safety and privacy concerns. Adoption obstacles like fostering public acceptance, ensuring economic feasibility, and upgrading infrastructure will be also addressed.
